Last rites of former chief minister of Manipur Rishang Keishing which was decide to be perfomed at his birth place Bungpa Khunou in Kamjong district was buried at his Imphal residence at Mantripukhri.
The funeral rites was shifted from Bungpa following diktat from the NSCN-IM not to perform it in Kamjong.
Cheif minister Nongthombam Biren Singh told the reporters “So far I have no knowledge about the NSCN-IM matter as I have just returned from outside the state. Actions will be taken up if it was the case.”
Biren Singh was along his council of ministers at the funeral ceremony.
“His demise is a big loss to the state and India. He was the best and well desciplined parliamentarian. He served Manipur for 13 years as chief minister of manipur. Whatever he did for Manipur is remarkable. He tried to unified amongst the communities. He never had the differences between the hills and plains.” Said the chief minister.
Ibobi and his congress members and senior political leaders attended the funeral ceremony amid the relatives and friends of the Keishing.
Ahead of the burial service Rishang’s body was brought to Congress Bhavan early morning and paid last respect. Later he was brought to Manipur Baptist Convention Church to perform rituals for his funeral service.
“Lets works together to fullfill his dream of peace and unity”, said Ibobi.
“Oh, Manipur” was his last word said Victor Keishing. “My father’s last wish was the unity of all living in the state.”
Keishing died due to multiple organ failure on Tuesday evening at Regional institute of Medical Sciences hospital. He was suffering from heart and kidney ailments when he was brought to the hospital on July 1.
He was the 11th chief minister of Manipur served the Rajya Sabha since 2002 till 2014.
The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind has condoled the passing away of former chief Minister of Manipur.
In a condolence message to his wife, Khatingla Keishing, the President said, “I am sad to learn about the passing away of Rishang Keishing.” He was a towering leader of the North-East and the member of the first Lok Sabha. He also served as the member of Rajya Sabha from Manipur. A great leader, he actively participated in our freedom struggle. In his passing away, the nation has lost a well known public figure and a veteran Parliamentarian whose services to the State of Manipur and the nation shall always be remembered, added the President.
