Education Minister Shri Thokchom Radheshyam said, the freedom struggle from the yoke of the British Colonial Rule was not just for independence from a foreign rule but to be free and independent in thought, social boundaries and academically to progress the society towards a positive change.
He was speaking as chief guest of the 105th Birth Anniversary Celebration of Shri H. Nilamani Singh at INA Hall, Moirang. Shri H. Nilamani Singh is a freedom fighter who fought for a social change and brought educational revolution. The minister said, the tribute to the freedom fighter’s place would only be complete when today’s generation follows his footstep to sacrifice for the welfare of the people and fearless to do for what is right.
Such personality of righteousness is more necessary today than before to bring positive transformation in the state. Every step has two faces to win or to lose but the most important is the spirit to face the issue with full strength and potential the ability to face the challenge not accepting the defeat even in the face of lost, the minister added.
Moirang is one of the prominent tourist places with INA Museum attracting many tourists in the state. The minister said it is of utmost importance that the bullet-ridden hall of INA, which is a place of world heritage need restoration and preservation. He would take up the matter with the Chief Minister and discuss along with local MLA and will try to sort out ways to fulfill demands mentioned in the memorandum, the minister assured.
The resource persons read out paper on life and contributions of H. Nilamani Singh. Meritorious Awards were also distributed to the students of the Moirang who held positons in the recent High School and Higher Secondary Examinations. Hon’ble MLA, Moirang A/c, P. Sharatchandra, Chairperson MMC, M. Romibala Devi, Vice Chairperson MMC M. Basanta Singh and members of the organizing committee Hemam Nilamani Foundation, Moirang attended the celebration.
The minister later visited Moirang College, Moirang. Education Minister heard to the grievances of the principal and staffs of the college. Education Minister after listening to the grievances informed that the inadequacy of infrastructure requirement of all the schools and colleges is similar everywhere. An audit assessing the availability and non-availability of the requirements is near to completion. As soon as this is completed, the issue will be addressed at the earliest, he added.
The minister also said that the HRD Ministry has been consulted in connection to the post of regular principals, which will be filled when the ministry gives a positive nod. He further said while submitting a report regarding the progress of the college the concept note should highlight the past and present condition mentioning for atleast past five years. Any civil construction in the college should have a holistic approach taking into account of the future expansion or developmental plans of the college, he added.
