Uninterrupted power supply is necessary in industrialisation of a society, said Power Minister Shri Thongam Biswajit Singh after inaugurating a 132/33 KV Sub-Station at Elangkhangpokpi today. Minister Biswajit inaugurated 132/33 KV Sub-Stations at Chandel and Elangkhangpokpi today in the presence of IFC and Youth Affairs & Sports Minister Shri Letpao Haokip, MANIDCO & MANITRON Chairman Shri Dr Radheshyam Yumnam, Kakching MLA Shri Y. Surchandra Singh, Kumbi MLA Shri S Bira Singh and Chief Secretary Shri O Nabakishore Singh.
Addressing the formal inaugural function at the Elangkhangpokpi Power Sub Station, the Power Minister stressed on the importance of the Power department and said the department helps in lighting up the darkness.
He said that, it is the government’s objective to provide electricity to all villages of the State by December 2018. We have identified the remaining unelectrified villages, he said adding that, the government is committed to provide electricity to all villages.
Minister Biswajit also said that there are also plans to install 11 more sub-stations including at Chingai in Ukhrul district, Oinam in Senapati, Molnom in Churachadpur, Somdal, Somdal, Sankeithel in Ukhrul, Tamenglong Headquarter, Akampat, etc. He continued there is also a plan to build a logistic park in Koutruk. Explaining the need to install a sub-station at Akampat, the Minister said it will help in the plan to construct a sports complex for Imphal East at Akampat.
Lauding the Manipur State Power Company Ltd for the timely completion of installation of the power sub-station at Elangkhangpokpi, Minister Biswajit also said that, the project for installation of the power sub-station was awarded in November 2015. He also assured the officials of the MSPCL that as long as he remains the Power Minister, the State government will not abandon them and that the government will continue to work together with them.
Minister Biswajit also spoke on the present government’s 100-day programme and said people must have wondered whether the present BJP led government was trying to highlight projects initiated by the previous government as their achievements by inaugurating such projects under their 100-day programme. He said this was not the case, but the new government has brought new hopes for the people and is only trying to fulfil the public’s aspirations.
He further stressed there were previous governments and that new governments will come, however, the main target of the present government led by the BJP is welfare of the people.
He asserted a government has to work efficiently for people’s welfare, while people should honour the government and understand there is a law under the government. This will bring development in the society.
Minister Biswajit also spoke on the trust deficit in the society and said the present government is working towards bridging the gap and bring unity in the society. The Minister also released a booklet on 100-days programme of MSPDCL during the inaugural function.
Earlier in the day after inaugurating the power sub-station at Chandel, Minister Biswajit had also participated in brief meeting with at Chandel.
The sub-station at Elangkhangpokpi has a 2×20 MVA capacity while the one at Chandel has a 2×12.5 MVA capacity. Power supply in chandel town and adjoining villages was fed from 132/33/11 Kv sub-station at Kakching through long 11 Kv lines passing through thick forestation causing frequent interruption in power supply. At present, electricity to Elangkhangpokpi and its surrounding areas like Thounaojam, Thongjao, Waikhong Laimanai, Lanmeidong, etc is supplied from 33/11 KV Kakching sub-station through long 11 KV lines.
