Shri Shyamkumar, Minister of MAHUD, Town Planning, Forests & Environment and Horticulture & Soil Conservation today felicitated meritorious students of Andro Assembly Constituency at the 11th Meritorious Award ceremony held as part of the ongoing 10th State Level Pineapple Festival cum Buyers & Sellers Meet & Youth Festival, 2017 at Thambalnu Market Complex, Poiroupat, Lamkhai, Andro.
All together 479 students who secured first division in the Class X and XII exam conducted by the State Board and CBSE were felicitated today with cash reward and citation, including three State toppers. The felicitation programme was organised by the Development Organisation Andro Kendra (DOAK).
Minister Shyamkumar also felicitated Manipuri scientist Dr. Guneshwar Thangjam with cash reward and citation as a token of appreciation after an asteroid was named after him by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) ) in a conference “Asteroids, Planets and Meteors, 2017” held at South America. He is working at the Department of Planets and Comets, Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research, Gottingen, Germany. Dr. Guneshwar Thangjam was born in Poiroukhongjin, Yairipok, Andro A/C.
Speaking as the Chief Guest of the function, Minister Shyamkumar said many educational institutions in the Andro A/C are presently being developed with the help of Central Government funds. Narrating the success story of Azad Higher Secondary School, Shyamkumar was hopeful that Class XII students of the constituency can someday come in the list of Top 10 rankings.
Minister Shyamkumar lauded Dr. Guneshwar Thangjam for bringing laurels for the country and the State. Stating that he is proud of his success, Shyamkumar said hard work and patience of Dr. Guneshwar led to his achievement.
Lauding the pineapple farmers of Andro, Th. Shyamkumar thanked the farmers for their hard work and for making the State Level Pineapple possible.
