The Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal East today rejected the prayer to give bail to the United Naga Council’s chief Gaidon Kamei and his information secretary Shankhil Stephen who had been in the police custody, and they were remanded to judicial custody till February 4.
The accused persons were produced in front of the court with a prayer for 15 days judicial remand on the charge of burning a rice laden truck along the Imphal Jiribam road by the Naga council members.
The court rejected the prayer for bail of the two blockade leaders and remanded them to judicial custody.
However the court gave the permission to the UNC leaders to attend the tripartite talk initiated by the state government at the conference hall of the old secretariat on January 23.
Gaidon and Stephen were apprehended by a state police team on November 25 for imposing indefinite economic blockade in the state which is accompanied with violence and social disorder. The UNC launched the blockade since the midnight of November 1 agitating against the state government for allegedly standing against Naga integration by bifurcating Naga inhabited areas.
