Imphal: Members of Laihui, a folk artists group in Manipur, led by noted Pens artist Mangka Mayanglambam along with six others called on Manipur governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Raj Bhavan, here on Monday.
Mangka briefed the governor about certain activities of Laihui in preserving and promoting Manipur’s indigenous music and performing arts, particularly the Pena, a traditional Manipuri string instrument that embodies the cultural heritage of the state.
The folk artist also discussed the ongoing efforts to obtain a Geographical Indication (GI) tag for the Pena and sought support for initiatives that encourage young artist to uphold and promote the state’s rich cultural traditions.
The governor appreciated their work in safeguarding Manipur’s folk traditions.
