KLA-L demands autonomy in resettlement of IDPs

Imphal: Kuki Liberation Army-Letkholun (KLA-L), a banned underground outfit in a statement released on Thursday said the Kuki-Zo people demand autonomy in managing the resettlement of internally displaced persons.

It said, “Any plan or policy that undermines our capacity to care for our own will be met with resolute opposition. The government’s proposal to close relief camps by December 2025 without meaningful engagement is unacceptable.”

Manipur government, on July 4, announced that all the relief camps housing internally displaced persons will be shut down by December and to help the displaced families rehabilitate in three phase programme.

“A viable resettlement plan must be conceptualized and executed by the Kuki-Zo, for the Kuki-Zo. We require full agency in determining resource allocation and utilization. We urge the Government to step back, provide necessary support and resources, and let us manage our own affairs without interference,” the outfit said.

A separate administration is a prerequisite for the safe and dignified return of the displaced persons, it added.
