Few days heavy rain creates havoc in Manipur

Imphal: Incessant rainfall has flooded Imphal East district and water level and flow rises in rivers and hill streams of Senapati district.

Around 30 families residing in Imphal East district has been rescued by Manipur State Disaster Management Authority tram.

All major rivers in Imphal East, mainly Iril river have high danger level of water volume. Low lying areas in Imphal East and some parts of Thoubal district including Yairipok and Wangjing have been affected.

Senapati district deputy commissioner has alarmed the people in view of the incessant rainfall and subsequent increase in water level of the rivers and the hill streams in the district.

As per India Meteorological Department, Impact Based Forecast dated 14.09.2025 heavy to very heavy rainfall/thunderstorm lightning is very likely to occur from 14th  to 16th September, the Senapati deputy commissioner said.

In this regard,  it advised the general public to exercise extreme caution and stay alert for all possible breaches of the river banks and overflow of water to surrounding areas.

In order to protect life and property, the general public has been advised to avoid driving or walking through flowing water, as it can be risky.

It advised not to try to swim or cross a flooded river or stream or any flowing water body; stay away from floodwaters, as they may be contaminated with sewage, chemicals, or other hazard; not to touch or go near any submerged transformers, inverters or electrical post or wires; to stay informed through local news and emergency alerts, to follow instructions from local authorities and emergency responders; to follow evacuation orders from authorities; to postpone outdoor activities including farming and fishing until situation improves.

It was also advised to avoid unnecessary travel to inundated areas; to switch off electrical appliances if water enters your home.

Children and the elderly have been advised to stay in safe locations.

The public have been requested to be vigilant and inform any Government authorities for immediate intervention in case of any emergency.
