Imphal: Manipur government has taken up preparatory measures for the proposed visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the state.
It will be the prime minister’s first visit to the state since ethnic conflict erupted in May 2023. The violence has claimed more than 260 lives, and displaced over 60,000 people.
The Prime Minister is expected to visit the state in the second week of this month.
Chief secretary, Manipur presided a preparatory meeting here on Saturday, for the proposed VVIP visit, where he stated that the visit needs to be organised in a grand manner.
After a detailed discussion on arrangements and responsibilities of the departments and officers, decisions were taken for the two venues — Kangla, Imphal and Peace Ground, Churachandpur.
The police department has been assigned to deal with all security arrangements inducting installation of Jammer, sanitization and anti-sabotage checking of enroute and function venue at Kangla and Churachandpur.
The department has been assigned for installation of requisite number of two layers of view cutters, CCTV cameras, drone surveillance and door frame metal detectors in consultation with the Special Protection Group team; carcade arrangement including bullet proof vehicles as per the movement plan in consultation with Special Protection Group team.
Commissioner (Horticulture) has been assigned for decoration of stage and dais at both the venues with quality fresh flowers and at thd airport; Beautification of road medians from Airport to KangIa – at Imphal and from BSF Helipad to Peace Ground – at Churachandpur along with Forest and Environment departments, director Arts and Culture and District Adminstration, Churachandpur.
Secretary (GAD) has been tasked for finalization of design of hoardings provided by DIPR, among others including food arrangements.
Modi’s visit may develop a new agreement under the Suspension of Operations framework with Kuki-Zo groups, and the formation of a state government with new chief minister.
