2 bombs found near MP Sanajaoba’s residence

Imphal: Security forces on Monday recovered two high explosive hand grenades near Bal Vidya Mandir school, located less than 50 metres distance from the residence of Rajya Sabha MP Sanajaoba Leishemba and the Shree Shree Govindajee temple complex.

The bombs were discovered at around 9:30 am during a routine recce by personnel of B/66 Battalion of the CRPF, who are stationed inside the school for security purposes.

The grenades, identified as high-explosive hand grenades, were found lying outside the school compound, close to the main gate.

A Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) team was immediately rushed to the spot, with Imphal East district police personnel.

The grenades were retrieved safely. Police later confirmed that detonators were missing in both the bombs, which rendered them incapable of being triggered.

A case has been registered at Porompat police station, and launched investigations.

No militant has claimed responsibility for planting the grenades till the filing of this report.

The recovery of the highly explosive grenades in such a sensitive location has raised security concerns. Police sources said the matter has been taken seriously.
