Imphal: Welcoming the the report of the Independent People’s Tribunal released by the People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) on the Manipur conflict, the Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) said the report is the most detailed study of the violence that began on May 3, 2023.
Ginza Vualzong, Secretary of Information and Publicity of the KZC, in a statement said the tribunal led by former Supreme Court Judge Justice Kurian Joseph gave importance to the voices of victims, survivors, and others affected by the unrest.
The council described the report as a fair and clear picture of what is happening on the ground.
It said the conflict has shown that the Meiteis in the valley and the Kuki-Zo people in the hills cannot continue to live under one administration. “If both communities are forced to stay together, hostility will only grow and suffering will continue.”
The council urged the Government of India to recognise the demand for separate administration for the Kuki-Zo people. “Only then can peace, dignity, and justice return to both communities, and only then can Manipur start to heal.”
