Imphal: A Joint Action Committee (JAC) in connection to the death of a Class IX student in Manipur’s Bishnupur district allegedly due to cyber bullying has demanded immediate arrest of those responsible for circulating a video clip of the minor.
The action committee warned of intensified agitation if action is not taken by August 25.
The 14-year-old girl was found dead inside her home on Friday morning, Police confirmed it adding that she was discovered hanging while her parents were out of home.
The JAC, on Saturday, staged a sit-in rally at Keipha Keithel,Thamnapokpi Bazar, Bishnupur district demanding justice.
People demonstrated with placards “Stop cyber harassment”, “Save our students”, “Punish the guilty”, “Protect the innocent” among others.
Locals suspect that the minor may have been forced to take the step after a video clip of her, allegedly recorded and shared without her knowledge, went viral on social media.
Moirang Police have registered a case in connection with the incident. The body was taken to RIMS mortuary, where post-mortem was carried out in the presence of a magistrate, with the entire procedure video recorded.
