Imphal: A one-day legal awareness programme on illegal poppy cultivation was held on Wednesday at the conference hall of Senapati police superintendent.
Organised by District Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of Senapati Police, the programme was attended by village chiefs, chairmen and secretaries of Taphou Kuki, Willong, Maopungdung, Ngatan, Sorbung, Makuilongdi, Maram Bazaar, Willong Khunou, Oklong Khunou, Khamsom Huphii, Pungdulong, Sadim Pukhri, Ngatan, Sorbung, Gorkha Samaj and Khabung Khunou.
SP Senapati SM Zaib Zakir, IPS highlighted the liabilities to the offenders of drugs and appealed the village leaders to extend co-operation to the police in this effort for zero cultivation in Senapati during this crop season.
Technical session was led by ASP NH-2 ML Kaisungbou, MPS who is also the nodal officer for district ANTF Senapati. He explained the various penal sections under ND & PS Act, 1985 by using powerpoint presentations.
Addl. SP (L/O) Thangkhochon Haokip also explained the ill-effects of drugs to the society and how it penetrates even schools and families and urged the village elders to extend full co-operation to the law enforcement agencies in this war on drugs campaign for better future.
