Imphal: Office of the Rajya Sabha MP Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba has lodged a complaint on Wednesday against one Sanaton Meitei of Kabo Leikai, Imphal, for allegedly making derogatory remarks on social media against the MP and his royal lineage.
The complaint was made to Porompat Police on August 20, pertaining to a post dated August 18, which the MP’s office described as being in ‘very bad taste, casting aspersion to the bloodline of Maharaja Leishemba, which is considered as the highest offence to a titular king’.
The official letter was submitted by Maisnam Shivdutta, personal assistant to the MP.
The complaint letter refuted allegations made in the social media post that branded Arambai Tenggol, a socio-cultural organisation as the private army of the Sanajaoba. It clarified that such claims were “unfounded and not based on facts,” stressing that the “MP’s association with Arambai Tenggol was only in the context of encouraging it as an indigenous socio-cultural organisation, not as an armed group.”
The letter highlighted Sanajaoba’s contributions in Parliament, particularly his efforts to raise issues concerning the state and the plight of internally displaced persons. It further argued that attempts to malign the character of a public figure through baseless allegations could not be tolerated.
“A man should not be allowed to malign the character of a public figure. It is requested that he should be taught a lesson by filing an FIR against his misdeeds. It is high time that the ‘Right to Expression’ does not mean to say whatever one pleases,” the letter stated.
Police have acknowledged receipt of the complaint, and the MP’s office has expressed hope that due course of law will be initiated to book the accused.
