Imphal: A police personnel posted at Bishnupur district police has been placed under suspension after he was arrested in connection with an alleged extortion case involving the use of arms to threaten the public.
An order issued by the superintendent of police, Bishnupur district, on Monday, said the the police constable identified as Md. Amumacha, presently attached with CID (SB), Manipur, was arrested by Andro police station on Saturday in connection with FIR No. 23(08)2025 under Sections 308(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and 25(1-C) of the Arms Act.
He was accused of extorting money from the public by using arms, as per a report submitted by the superintendent of police, CID (SB), it added.
The suspension order said, “A departmental enquiry is being contemplated against the accused officer.”
He has been placed under suspension with immediate effect under Rule 66 of A.P. Manual Pt-III, it added.
Police arrested the cop and a companion allegedly for extorting money, looting mobile phones, and threatening the public.
They were produced before a duty magistrate on Sunday and remanded to 10 days’ police custody.
“During preliminary interrogation, the duo admitted to threatening people for extortion by using toy guns,” a police official said.
