Kuki CSOs call of economic blockade

Imphal: The economic blockade called by the Working Committee Kuki CSOs on Friday along NH-2 of Kangpokpi district has been called off with immediate effect, said a statement issued by the committee in ‘public interest’ on Saturday.

“Although after much delay and at the cost of tremendous hardship and suffering faced by the Kuki-Zo people, we acknowledge the intervention of the Hon’ble Governor of Manipur in opening the 20+ days of total communal blockade against the particular community of the Kuki-Zo people along our Kangpokpi/Kanggui A Lamka/Churachandpur lifeline,” the working committee of Kuki CSOs said.

It expressed its gratitude to the mature stand taken by the United Naga Council in ‘localizing the current issue and upholding humanitarian principles’.

“We also acknowledge the support extended by other well wishers and the general Kuki-Zo population in ensuring the success of this economic blockade.”

“However, we would like to remind all stakeholders and the state/central authorities that we will never allow any organization to dictate terms along our lifelines and we appeal to our people to be always prepared to voice our democratic protests if and when necessitated in the coming future,” the committee said.

The development came after the Foothill Naga Co-ordination Committee (FNCC) agreed to call off its blockade following a discussion with representatives of Manipur government on Friday.
