Imphal: Foothill Naga Co-ordination Committee (FNCC) has agreed to call off its blockade following a discussion with representatives of Manipur government, said Manipur Police on Friday.
Representatives of the government and the representatives of the FNCC made a ‘detailed discussion’ with reference to the points raised by FNCC.
Both parties agreed that, on the construction of unauthorised road (Tiger Road connecting Kangpokpi and Churachandpur), It was clarified that state government had not approved or sanctioned any such roads as pointed out by FNCC. Necessary legal action will be taken after verifying the status of such Illegal constructions / naming, if any on ground, will not be permitted.
As regards concerns expressed over So0 Agreement / designated camps etc., both parties agreed that interests and apprehensions of Nagas in Foot-hill areas will be seriously considered by state government in consultation with Government of India.
About the illegal Poppy Cultivation, it was acknowledged by both parties that the state government has been taking stern actions against those involved in Poppy cultivation under NDPS Act and PIT (NDPS) Act under the initiative of War on Drugs.
State government had been taking steps towards Zero tolerance to NDPS matters more particularly illegal cultivation of Poppy and Cannabis. Destruction drives had been conducted by the state police and central agencies like NCB. It was agreed that state government will take up necessary action including survey of area and destruction of illegal cultivation of poppy and Cannabis in the state.
On the basis of the understanding, FNCC agreed to call off the blockade and agitation with immediate effect.
The FNCC was represented by Dr Aku Newme, general secretary Joint Tribes Council; B. Robin Kabui, FNCC secretary; Nelson Chithung, nomination convenor, Tangkhul Naga Foothills Organisation; and Ch. Rianjinlu, co-convenor, Koubru Range Liangmai Women Union.
The state government was represented by N. Ashok Kumar, commissioner-cum-secretary (Home), Manipur.
However, there has been no update report of Kuki civil society organisations on the blockade imposed along the National Highway-2 in response to the FNCC’s bandh.
