Imphal: Manipur Police and security forces made another major recovery of arms and ammunitions during operations conducted in Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Kakching, and Bishnupur districts in Manipur on Tuesday.
The security forces operation was another significant step towards restoring peace and security in Manipur, said IGP (Intelligence) K. Kabib addressing to reporters at Manipur Police Headquarters, here.
Acting on specific intelligence about a large cache of arms, ammunition, and warlike materials concealed at various locations, coordinated operations were launched simultaneously at multiple sites in the peripheral and suspected areas of the five districts, he said.
Joint teams, comprising the Manipur Police, Central Armed Police Forces, and the Army and Assam Rifles, recovered arms, ammunition, explosives, and other warlike stores. A total of 86 weapons and 976 ammunitions including explosives were recovered.
They were five AK Series, three Insas, 16 SLRs, five 303 rifles, 19 postols, two carbines, nine rifles, 16 SBBL Bore Actions, two anti-riot guns, one each of JVPC, DBBL and one-inch mortar, six bolt action guns, nine grenades, 526 numbers of 7.62 live ammunition, 226 numbers of 5.56 live ammunition, 190 numbers of 303 live ammunition, seven 9 mm ammunition, four .32 mm ammunition, six HE mortar shell, two launching tubes and four IEDs.
These continued intelligence-led operations represent a major accomplishment for the Manipur Police and Security Forces in their continued mission to restore peace, uphold public order, and safeguard the lives and property of citizens, the senior police officer said.
Manipur Police reaffirms its commitment to fostering a peaceful and secure Manipur, he added. He urged the public to cooperate with the police and security forces and to promptly report any suspicious activity or information related to illegal arms to the nearest police station or the Central Control Room.
Senior police officials remain in close coordination with all security stakeholders to ensure that such operations continue in a sustained and focused manner, aimed at restoring normalcy, maintaining public order, and safeguarding the lives and property of all citizens, he said.
Recently during an extensive search operation conducted, from July 3-4, in hill districts — Tengnoupal, Kangpokpi, Chandel and Churachandpur, 203 weapons, 12 grenades and a large number of ammunitions were recovered
On June 14, a total of 328 weapons and 10,600 ammunitions were also recovered in the valley.
On February 27, security forces had recovered a total of 307 weapons in the valley, out of which 246 were deposited by Arambai Tengol.
