Younger brother to Operation Sindoor hero Deepak appointed as Manipur Police officer

Imphal: The Governor-in-Council, in its sitting held on Friday, has approved the appointment of Chingakham Naoba Singh, brother of late CO Deepak Chingakham (BSF), who sacrificed his life in Operation Sindoor, to the post of assistant sub-inspector (Civil Police) under the Home Department, Manipur.

“This appointment has been made on humanitarian and exceptional grounds in recognition of the supreme sacrifice made by his elder brother, Late Constable (CT) Deepak Chingakham of the Border Security Force (BSF), who laid down his life during ‘Operation Sindoor’,” said a statement released by the Governor’s office.

Late CO Deepak Chingakham, 25, son of Chingakham Bonbihari of Yairipok Yambem Mathak Leikai, Imphal East district, Manipur, serving with the 7th Battalion of the BSF, sustained fatal injuries during unprovoked cross-border firing by Pakistani forces in the RS Pura Sector of Jammu and Kashmir on May 10, and succumbed to his injuries on the next day.

The Governor-in-Council, in its sitting on May 15, had approved an enhanced ex-gratia amount of Rs 10 Lakh to the Next of Kin under the “Major Laishram Jyotin Singh, Ashok Chakra (Posthumous) Ex-Gratia Scheme.”

Following the martyrdom, the martyr’s father, Chingakham Bonbihari, submitted a representation to the Governor, requesting suitable employment for his younger son under the state government by opting to forego a BSF-offered opportunity in favour of employment within Manipur to stay lose to the family during this period of hardship.

“The Governor-in-Council, after due consideration, found merit in the request, based on the exceptional nature of the case involving martyrdom in national service and the morale and humanitarian responsibility of the state to support families of national heroes,” the statement said.

“The Government of Manipur reaffirms its unwavering commitment to honouring the sacrifices made by brave personnel and supporting their family in times of need. This appointment may be seen as both a gesture of gratitude and a meaningful support to the bereaved family,” it added.
