Imphal: Department of Economics in collaboration with Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Oriental College Imphal observed the 35th World Population Day 2025 on Friday at the conference hall of the college.
The day was observed on this year’s theme ‘Empowering Young people to create the families they want in a fair and hopeful future’.
During the observation, speakers highlighted that the government should take population issue seriously for a peaceful and sustainable future of the state. They also emphasised that the issue of population should be viewed from the region-specific context in order to maintain a demographic balance among different communities in a state like Manipur.
As part of the observation an Intra College Spot Essay competition was held on the topic, ‘Empowering India’s Young Population: Opportunities and Challenges’, on the 10th July, with many students taking part.
Mutum Dayakumar Singh, Jina Khuraijam of Political Science department (6th Semester) and Sagolsem Washington of History department won the 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively. Later certificates and cash prizes were handed to them by the dignitaries of the observation.
Dr. S. Ranjit Singh, principal, Dr. Gurumayum Ranita Devi HoD of Economics and Dean of Arts, Ch. Somorendro Singh, Retd. HoD of Economics and M. Lokendra Singh, President AMCTA and HoD Chemistry department graced the observation as chief guest, president and guest of honours, respectively.
