Security forces apprehend militants, recover arms

Imphal:  In a series of operations, Indian Army and Assam Rifles formation under Spear Corps launched intelligence-based operations in Jiribam, Kangpokpi, Churachandpur, Bishnupur, Tengnoupal, Imphal East and Imphal West, between June 30 – July 6 in coordination with Manipur Police, CRPF, BSF, and ITBP.

The operations resulted in apprehension of four cadres from the hill and valley-based groups and recovery of 62 weapons, 30 Improvised Explosive Devices, grenades, ammunition and war like stores, the Assam Rifles said in a statement released on Tuesday.

Acting on specific intelligence of presence of cadres with arms and ammunition in Imphal East District, Indian Army and Manipur Police launched a joint operation on July 1 and recovered four weapons comprising two pistols, single barrel rifle, .303 rifles, grenades, ammunition and war like stores, it added.

In Jiribam district, Assam Rifles, Manipur Police and CRPF launched a intelligence based joint search operation in Uchathol and Jairalpokpi villages Jiribam District on July 1 and recovered 15 weapons comprising six single barrel rifles, four double barrel rifles, two 12 bore shotguns, one pompi, two locally made sniper rifles, grenades, ammunition and war like stores, it said.

Similarly in general area Nepali Khutti, in Kangpokpi district, an intelligence based operation by Assam Rifles resulted in recovery of 16 weapons comprising include three Bolt Action Rif, four Single Barrel Rif, two Pull Mech Rif, Six Improvise Mortars, One open Bore pistol, grenades, ammunition and war like stores.

In Churachandpur district, an intelligence based operation in general area of Maovom village, Churachandpur district by Indian Army and Manipur Police on 03 Jul, resulted in recovery of over 10 weapons comprising one automatic rifle, a lathode gun, four countrymade pistols, three countrymade single barrel rifles, a carbine machine gun, large pump-action guns, ammunition and war like stores. On the same day, in Bishnupur in the area of Kumbhi Police Station, a joint operation by Indian Army and Manipur Police and recovered a .32 pistol, ammunition and war like stores, the statement said.

A joint team of the Indian Army and Manipur Police carried out an intelligence search operation in the forested area of Chanbirok in the Imphal West district on July 4 and recovered a well-concealed cache of four IEDs , two weapons comprising one Carbine Machine Gun, one .303 Rifle, ammunition and war like stores, it added.

On the same day a joint operation by Assam Rifles and Manipur Police in the general areas of Samukom, Lokchao and Algijang in Tengnoupal district resulted in recovery of 26 IEDs, 12 weapons comprising one INSAS rifle, two AK-56 rifles, one modified SLR, and two pistols, six long-range improvised mortars, grenades, ammunition and war like stores. Several concealed bunkers were also located and destroyed, the statement said.

On July 5, an intelligence based joint operation by Indian Army and Manipur Police in the foothills near Nepali Basti, close to Shantipur village resulted in recovery of two weapons comprising a Self Loading Rifle (SLR) rifle, a .303 rifle, ammunition and war like stores,  it added.

Intelligence based operations in hill and valley regions also resulted in apprehension of four cadres. The apprehended cadres and the recovered items have been handed over to Manipur Police, it said.
