Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister Shri Karam Shyam today called upon all the elected members of the Manipur State Legislative Assembly to work as a collective force to solve various issues, including mismanagement in the distribution of rice under National Food Security Act (NFSA) in the State.
He was speaking as the Chief Guest of the function at the inauguration of a community gate in front of Ima Nongpok Panthoibi Shanglen, Naorem Leikai. Minister Karam Shyam clarified that, the State government is controlling the sale of rice in the market to stop the trading of NFSA rice which is given to the beneficiaries at Rs 3/kg. Expressing serious concern over the matter, the Minister said that, the elected members of various constituencies must take the responsibility in the management of the distribution of NFSA rice to ensure that the rice reaches the beneficiaries.
He also stated that, he has been receiving numerous complaints regarding NFSA rice from the valley as well as hill districts, Karam Shyam said that, a mechanism will be soon implemented in consultation with the Chief Minister Shri. N. Biren Singh and officials so that all the benefits and schemes provided by the government reaches the target beneficiaries.
The Minister said that, it is time for all the elected members to leave behind political differences to work for the welfare of the people and for the State as a whole. He also sought the support from the people of the State to cooperate with the government for successful implementation of Central as well as State policies and programmes.
Minister Karam Shyam said that, the community gate inaugurated today at Naorem Leikai will be a landmark for the people of the State like the Maharaj Gambhir Singh Memorial Complex, Manipur University Gate, Narshing Temple and the Kawa Keithel (market). He also praised the elders and the youth of the area for actively participating in the construction of the community gate and welcomed them to give suggestions and advice on any issues.
Minister Karam Shyam also spoke as the Chief Guest during an awareness programme of women Self Help Groups (SHGs) in Lilong Chajing Mairenkhong Community Hall. He spoke on the importance of financial independence and the need to learn financial management. Minister said that, to financially empower women of the area, around 160 SHG consisting of 1,600 women will be given a financial aid which will be financed by the Urban Co-operative Bank. He said they must avail the financial assistance to improve their economic condition. Women play an important role in our society and it is important that each and every woman is financially independent for a better society, he added. The awareness programme was attended by women of Langthabal Assembly Constituency.
