Imphal: Manipur governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla chaired a security meeting at Raj Bhavan, here on Tuesday, after a high-level review meeting was conducted in the national capital on March 1.
The meeting at Imphal was held to assess the overall law and order situation in the state.
The security review meeting in Delhi, presided over by Union Home minister Amit Shah on March 1, directed security forces in Manipur to ensure the free movement of people on all roads starting March 8.
According to a statement issued by the governor’s office, the Imphal meeting was a follow-up to the recent security review in Delhi.
The meeting with the governor was attended by chief secretary PK Singh, security advisor Kuldiep Singh, DGP Rajiv Singh, Home commissioner Ashok Kumar, GOC 3 Corps lieutenant general Abhijit S. Pendharkar, GOC 57 Mountain Division major general SS Kartikeya, IG Assam Rifles (South) major general Ravroop Singh, ADGPs of Manipur Police, IG CRPF Rajendra Narayan Das, and IG BSF SK Mishra.
Reacting to Shah’s directive to ensure free movement on all roads in Manipur, including the national highways (Dimapur-Imphal-Moreh and Imphal-Silchar via Jiribam), the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), a Kuki body, strongly opposed the move.
Committee on Tribal Unity, CoTU, a Kuki body adopted an eight-point declaration which stated “We shall not rest, we shall not falter, and we shall not surrender until Separate Administration is achieved. This is our destiny.”, “No free movement shall be permitted in the Kuki-Zo area until a solution that respects our rights and aspirations is reached.”
CoTU leader Singsit proclaimed during the event, “This is not a plea. This is not a request. This is a declaration of an unstoppable movement.”
Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity, Cocomi, a Meitei apex body, in a statement issued on Tuesday, strongly condemned CoTU and call for immediate legal action against CoTU’s open defiance of the Union govenrment.
