Imphal: A bomb was found planted at a residential area in Imphal West on Monday morning, which prompted Meira Paibi to demand clarification from those responsible.

The explosive device was discovered around 7 am at the gate of Konjengbam Jiten, 58, son of the late Konjengbam Chaoba Thabal, in Khagempalli Huidrom Leikai under the jurisdiction of Singjamei police station.

The bomb was spotted by morning joggers along with a written note addressed to three individuals—Konjengbam Jiten, L. Sarat, and M. Praffulo. The content of the warning note remains unknown as it was seized by Manipur police along with the grenade around 7:30 am, said police.

Police have registered a case in connection with the incident.

Meira Paibi of Khagempalli Huidrom Leikai staged a sit-in at a community hall, condemning the act.

Khuraijam Ongbi Ruhini, a Meira Paibi leader said, “We strongly condemn the planting of a bomb in a residential area, as it could have been fatal if exploded.”

She urged those responsible to clarify their intentions.

Ruhini said Jiten has been involved in small-scale contract work.

No individual or group has claimed responsibility for the act till the filing of this report.
