Imphal: Rural Development and Panchayati Raj minister Yumnam Khemchand who returned to Imphal on Thursday after a meeting with Union Home minister Amit Shah, declined to comment on the purpose of his visit.

Amid reports of discontent among some ruling party MLAs, Khemchand, a cabinet colleague in the Biren-led government, along with BJP MLA Th. Radheshyam, met Shah on Wednesday evening.

On the same day, chief minister N. Biren Singh, along with seven MLAs, including three ministers and four legislators, rushed to Delhi on separate flights.

Sources said apart from Khemchand and Radheshyam, no other MLAs were able to meet Shah, despite the seven legislators and CM Biren Singh seeking an appointment with him.

Khemchand arrived at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, Imphal, on Thursday at around 1:05 pm via an IndiGo flight.

He said his visit to Delhi was solely for a health check-up. When asked about his meeting with central leaders, he refused to comment with a smiling face.

There is no report on Th. Radheshyam’s return to Imphal.

Biren and the seven MLAs who traveled to Delhi were seen attending the Kumbh Mela at Prayagraj.

Biren Singh shared on X, “It was a pleasure meeting Hon’ble MP and senior party leader Shri @rsprasad Ji at the Maha Kumbh 2025 before we took the holy dip at Triveni Sangam. Joined by my Hon’ble cabinet colleagues and MLAs, we stand together in prayer, seeking divine blessings for our people and the nation. May this sacred gathering strengthen our collective spirit and guide us toward a brighter future.”

It was unclear whether the legislative team has scheduled an appointment with Shah.
