Imphal: National Sports University celebrated its 7th foundation day on Thursday at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, here.
“The discipline among the Youths will make sucess in life, we all need to have self discipline,” said Education minister Th.Basantakumar Singh.
The minister lauded the Manipur sports star’s contributions, which is the guiding force in bringing first ever national sports university of the country in Manipur.
“Team sprit among ourselves will guide all of us for the success in life and sports is the only foundation of the team sprit,” the minister said.
Population wise, Manipur is the top in the country in producing sports talents in the international arenas including the Olympics, Asian Games. “Sports is our glory,” he added.
The ministry makes special mention to the women sports stars of Manipur who made a record in the Olympic participation. Out of the total 19 Manipuri Olympians 11 are women from Manipur. It clearly shows the world the talents and sprit of the Manipuri women, he said.
The vice-chancellor of the Univetsty, Usha Nayar said, the present status of the University which hosted students from 27 states imparts in various courses– four in master level and two in under graduate level.
She expresed the confidence that the university can help Manipur shine further in the international sporting arena.
Nameirakpam Kunjarani Devi, Kshetrimayum Thoiba Singh, Ngangbam Sonia Devi, Dronacharya awardee Leishangthem Ibomcha, Arjun awardees Mayangbam Bimoljit and Naorem Roshibina were honoured on the foundation day.
Outstanding students of the iniversity in various competitions at the national and international level were also honoured at the function.
A troupe of JNMDA Imphal present cultural performance including the world famous Raas Leela at the end of the celebration.
The construction of National Sports University main campus at Koutruk which foundation stone was laid in 2018 by Prime Minister Narendra Nodi has completed 70 percent and presently the University is functioning at the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, Imphal.
