Imphal: A combined state and central security forces recovered and seized a large cache of arms, explosives, and ammunition from the fringe areas of Aigejang and Leimaram Uyok Ching (hill) in Bishnupur district on Wednesday morning.

The recovery was made following intelligence reports of existence of armed miscreants and hidden weapon caches in the area.

A search operation involving Manipur police commandos and a column of the 33rd Assam Rifles discovered the weapons.

One SLR rifle with a magazine, one 51 mm mortar tube launcher, one sniper rifle, three 40 mm lathode shells, four SLR live rounds, four 36 HE grenades, one smoke bomb, two wireless sets, six rubber bullets, three tear smoke shells (50 meters), one tear smoke shell (135 meters), one chili tear smoke shell (136 meters), three stun shells, three camouflage long pants, two magazine pouches, two pairs of hunting shoes, one 12-bore cartridge, five .303 blank cartridges, and one HE MK-I were recovered.

The seized items were handed over to Nambol police station for further legal procedures, police said.
