One Hmar militant arrested with explosives and Brown Sugar, 90 acre poppy cultivation destroyed in Manipur

Imphal: Manipur Police and 38 AR arrested one active cadre of Hmar People’s Convention (Democratic) on Wednesday and recovered explosives and Brown Sugar from his possession.

The arrested person was identified as Lalchuollo, 48, of Lungthuilien village, Pherzawl district from Barak River bank near Tuisolen village under Borobekra police station, Jiribam district.

Twenty explosive sticks, 11 detonators, one meter of safety fuse and 44 soap caps containing brown colour powder suspected to be contraband drugs (Brown Sugar), weighing 457 grams, were recovered from his possession, said police on Friday.

Manipur Police Control Room appealed to public to return the looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately.

A joint team of Manipur Police, 18 Assam Rifles, Forest department and executive magistrate conducted poppy destruction on Friday in Phalee hill range under Lungchong Maiphei police station, Ukhrul district and destroyed 90 acres of poppy plantation and burned down 12 huts. An FIR has been registered and efforts are on to identify and book the cultivators, said police.
