Imphal: The government has been extending all possible assistance in shifting people affected by the conflict to safer places, chief minister N. Biren Singh said, as he distributed benefits to labour card holders under special scheme for providing financial assistance for education of children of labour card holders staying at relief camps at his secretariat, here on Wednesday.

In Phubala area, prefabricated houses have been constructed by the government. People have been moved to the houses located at a safer place. Around 2500 prefabricated houses have been occupied, Biren said.

Manipur has been on boil since May 2023, with the eruption of Meitei-Kuki conflict with Kuki-Zo launching attacks to Meitei villages.

The benefit distribution function was organised by the Manipur Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board under the department of Skills, Labour, Employment and Entrepreneurship.

The chief minister said, a total of Rs 2,89,10,000 was disbursed to around 5225 persons through Direct Benefit Transfer today (Wednesday). A sum of Rs 5000 has been provided as one time to every family having valid labour card and staying in the relief camps.

He said around 500 youths shall be provided skills training at Delhi for cabin crew placements. The funding for the training will be borne by the Ministry of Tourism and the priority will be given to the Internally Displaced Person (IDPs). He said, around 17 Start Ups have already employed around 432 IDPs.
