Imphal: The statement by chief minister N. Biren Singh, that the newly appointed governor would be able to restore peace in Manipur, was disappointing, said MP Bimol Akoijam on Tuesday.

“The chief minister’s remark suggests that the central government is discriminating the state by interfering in its matters,” said Akoijam.

“The law and order in a state should be managed by the respective chief minister, council of ministers, and the home minister.”

The present law and order situation in Manipur is under ‘decisionism’ and not based on the proper laws of the Indian Constitution, the MP said.

He was speaking during a one-day interaction with the public held at the residence of Kh Loken Singh, Sega Road Takhellambam Leikai, Imphal West, on Tuesday.

“It is quite surprising that a security meeting, chaired by the newly appointed governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, along with security chiefs, was held without the presence of chief minister Biren, who is also the home minister in charge,” the MP said.

He termed the current situation in Manipur as ‘jungleraj,’ stating that the law and order are being dictated by ‘decisionism.’
