Imphal: Haobam Satyabati Devi has won Sahitya Akademi Award 2024 on Poetry in Manipuri language for her work “Mainu Bora Nungshi Sheirol”.
Sahitya Akademi on Wednesday announced its annual Sahitya Akademi Awards in 21 languages.
Eight books of poetry, three of novel, two of short stones, three Essays, three Literary Criticism, one Play and one Research have won the Sahitya Akademi Awards 2024. Award in Bengali, Dogri and Urdu will be declared at later stage, said a press release.
The Awards, recommended by distinguished Jury members in 21 Indian languages, were approved by the Executive Board of the Sahitya Akademi which met on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Madhav Kaushik, president, Sahitya Akademi.
“The books were selected on the basis of recommendations made by a Jury of three members in the concerned languages in accordance with the procedure laid down for the purpose. According to the procedure, the Executive Board declared the Awards on the basis of unanimous selections made by the Juries or selection made on the basis of majority vote.”
The Awards relate to books first published during the five years immediately preceding the year of Award (i.e. between 1 January 2018 and 31 December 2022). The Award in the form of a casket containing an engraved copper-plaque, a shawl and an amount of Rs 1,00,000 towards cash content each will be presented to the awardees at the award presentation function which will be held on March 8, 2025 at Kama pi Auditorium, Copernicus Marg, New Delhi.
