Internet ban, curfew in Manipur

Imphal: Manipur government has extended the suspension of mobile data internet services for another two days in Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Kakching, Kangpokpi, and Churachandpur districts.

The mobile data suspension was enforced ‘due to the prevailing law and order situation, amid concerns that anti-social elements might exploit social media to transmit images, hate speech, and videos intended to incite public unrest. Such actions could have serious repercussions for the law and order situation in the state’.

Regarding curfew relaxations, the respective district administrations of Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Kakching, and Bishnupur have issued separate orders. These orders state that the indefinite curfew imposed in the five districts will be relaxed from 5 am to 12 noon on Sunday.
