Imphal: Doctors, engineers, lawyers, senior journalists and other educated professionals have expressed frustration over the never-ending aggressive attack to Meitei community by Kuki-Zo militants to establish a Kuki-land in Manipur.
The professionals staged a protest rally, here, on Saturday, under the banner Taragi Cheisu.
The protest represented a broad section of the academic community in the state.
The recent incident in Jiribam, where innocent women and children were targeted, brought the professionals together to protest, said Brojen Thangjam, a retired senior police officer.
The academic community is deeply concerned about the erosion of moral and ethical values amidst the ongoing ethnic clashes. The disappearance of legitimate institutions in the state is a significant issue, he added.
“We appeal to the authorities to restore and strengthen the legitimate institutions of the state. The urgent need is to contain the violence sooner rather than later.”
A research scholar, Devina Moirangthem condemned the militants for targeting women and children. “Such inhuman act should be universally condemned.”
