Imphal: Thirteen civil organisations in Manipur have imposed total shutdown demanding for urgent government intervention to secure the abducted persons in the Jiribam district.

The strike aimed to denounce the recent militant attack and the perceived inaction of the Manipur government and state law enforcement agencies in addressing the situation.

The 13 organisations were the International Peace and Social Advancement (IPSA), People’s Action for National Democratic Movement (PAMDM), Kangleipak Lamjing Apunba Meira Paibi Lup (Kanglamei), All Club Organisation Association & Meira Paibi Lup (ACOAM-Lup), Kangleipak Students’ Association (KSA), Indigenous People’s Association of Kangleipak (IPAK), Chanura Lamchinglel Kangleipak (CLK), Kanglei Ima Lup (KIL), Loumee Yaipha Lup Kangleipak (LOYALUP), Educational and Rural Development Organisation (ERDO), Malem Ima Kanba Lup (MIKL), Struggling Women’s Association (SWA), and Apunba Keithel Sinnaibi Lup (AKSIL).

A press was held at the office of IPSA at Keishampat on Tuesday to announce the 24-hour total shutdown from 6:00 pm of Tuesday till 6:00 pm of the next day.

Vendors in Imphal city left in rush. Shops were shut down immediately after the announcement of the people’s strike.
