Imphal: Organised by Delhi Meitei Co-ordinating Committee and Meetei Yumpham Charitable Trust, a gathering to mark the Ningol Chakouba festival was organised at Ambedkar Bhawan, Jhandewalan, Delhi on Sunday.

Ningol Chakouba is a unique festival of Manipur, in which married women are invited to feast.

The Delhi Ningol Chakouba was held on under the banner “An Event Dedicated to Fostering Peaceful Coexistence in Manipur”

About 1200-1300 took part in the gathering were Meetei cusines were served. Gifts were presented to the women and children.

People fromthe communities of Mao, Maram, Chothe, Pangal, Shikh, Assamese Meitei, Nagamese and people from the mainland took party in the grand gathering.

Rajendra Pal Gautam, MLA, Delhi Assembly; Vinayak Azad, Income Tax joint commissioner; advocate Bhanu Pratap, Supreme Court; D.C.Kapil, Labour Union; Munish Raizda, Bharatiya Liberal Party; Ratan Lal, professor-University of Delhi; Manoj Sherawat, convenor Kishan Mazadoor Union, wife of MP Bimol Akoijam were present among others.

The festival was widely celebrated in Manipur. Due to the Meitei-Kuki conflict, the festival that ties the bond between brothers and sisters, was not celebrated last year.
