Imphal: Former chief spokesperson of BJP, Manipur and socio-political commentator Chongtham Bijoy welcomed the judgment of the Civil Judge Junior Division, Imphal West-I, which declared his expulsion from the BJP as the party’s chief spokesperson null and void.
Bijoy made a statement to reporters at his residence in Lamphel Khunou, Imphal West, on Saturday.
He expressed that the judgment demonstrated that no one is above the law, especially in the face of a Dictatorial System, and that it restored his faith in the judicial process.
Chongtham Bijoy, served the BJP Manipur Pradesh since 1994 (27 years). He was expelled from the party for six years without prior notice or an opportunity to defend himself.
The expulsion order was issued by State BJP President A. Sharda on February 8, 2022, as a disciplinary action.
“The judgment found that the party, represented by the state president, A Sharda, violated the principles of natural justice and the party’s own disciplinary procedures,” Bijoy said.
Bijoy said, within the next 4-5 days, he expects to receive a certified copy of the judgment, which he plans to send to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the national party president, the state party president, and the Northeast in-charge of the party.
Bijoy has plans to seek significant compensation from the party for what he believes was a malicious attempt to damage his political career. He pledged to donate the entire compensation amount towards efforts for restoring peace and developing a roadmap for peace in the state.
