Imphal: Meira Paibi of Thangmeiband of Imphal West organised a candlelight vigil on Tuesday evening honouring three Manipur insurgents who were killed by militants in Myanmar while fighting for the cause Manipur.

The vigil took place near DMU Gate, along Thangmeiband New Assembly Road, Imphal West.

The three insurgents honored were self-styled captain of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), Oinam Gulu alias Babu, son of O. Kunjo; self-styled captain of Prepak (Pro), Wahengbam Sukumar alias Sopaba; and lance corporal Nongmaithem Bonysana alias Nongdon, son of N. Sanjita.

They were killed on October 23 during a gunfight with Myanmar based militants.

They were part of a joint operation involving KCP, KYKL, Prepak (Pro), RPF/PLA, and UNLF (Koireng led), which attempted to demolish an area where KNF(B) and IOF militants were sheltering to ambush the joint insurgent outfits, says a report.

The funerals of Wahengbam Sukumar and Nongmaithem Bonysana were held at Iroishemba, Imphal West, while Oinam Gulu alias Babu’s funeral was held at Sugnu, Kakching district.

Floral tributes were paid to the portraits of the three deceased.
