Imphal: One HE grenade was found in front of GP Women’s college gate on Monday morning, placed on papers with warning notes “Down with Fascist Education System, Honour the Rights of Proletarian Students’ Free Education Movement, Glory to the Proletarian Students.”
Passers-by near the GP Women’s College gate on Central Jail Road, Imphal, spotted the grenade at around 6 am, Police said.
A police team rushed to the scene. The lever of the bomb was found detached. Manipur Bomb Disposal Squad was invited to the spot.
The squad defused the bomb at Lamphel Game Village area, taking necessary safety precautions, by around 7:20 am.
A case has been registered at Imphal police station for further investigation.
In another scene, residents of Khangabok, Thoubal district, staged a sit-in protest on Sunday, blocking NH-102 in response to a bomb threat by armed miscreants at the residence of Sur Hospital proprietor, Dr. Laishram Somen, on Saturday at around 8:30 pm.
As per CCTV footage, a group of around seven armed miscreants arrived at Dr. Somen’s residence in a Gypsy at around 8:30 pm and placed the grenade inside Dr. Somen’s dressing table.
The locals of Khangabok have resolved to launch a stern agitation if the responsible group does not clarify within 48 hours. They warned to boycott against all armed miscreants if the group fails to respond.
