Imphal: The Manipur government has begun begun to accommodate 120 families, displaced by conflict, in a newly built housing complex at Langol, a hillock northwest of the state capital, Imphal, on Friday.
Chief minister N. Biren Singh, in a post on X said the newly constructed alternative housing complex at the National Games Village is now home to 120 families, comprising around 460 individuals, who were forced to leave their homes in Moreh, Churachandpur, and Phoubakchao.
“The newly constructed alternative housing complex at the National Games Village, Langol, is now home to a total of 120 families, comprising 460 individuals from Moreh, Churachandpur, and Phoubakchao. Our government remains committed to supporting the rehabilitation and well-being of every displaced family,” said CM Biren.
“As part of our ongoing efforts to support and rehabilitate displaced families, the IDPs have begun moving into the newly constructed housing complex,” CM Biren added in another post on X, referring to internally displaced people.
On October 23, the chief minister announced that over 7,000 temporary houses would be built for the internally displaced, many of whom have been residing in schools and college campuses since May of last year. The Centre has approved the construction work, he noted.
Of the over 7,000 houses planned, the highest number—1,813—will be built in Kangpokpi district, followed by 1,331 in Churachandpur, 1,217 in Kakching, 1,015 in Bishnupur, 880 in Tengnoupal, 594 in Imphal East, 511 in Chandel, 225 in Imphal West, and 74 in Kamjong.
