Imphal: Three militants of two different proscribed underground outfits from Manipur died in a fire fight with Myanmar militants on Thursday.

The militants were identified as one self-styled captain of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), Oinam Gulu alias Babu; self-styled captain of Prepak (Pro), Wahengbam Sukumar alias Sopaba; and lance corporal Nongmaithem Bonysana alias Nongdon.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the assistant publicity secretary of the proscribed underground outfit Prepak (Pro), L. Ningshingba, said the incident occurred at around 5 am on Thursday, while six conglomerate underground outfits, Apunba Yawol Lanmi, were patrolling along the border.

The underground outfit comprises KCP, KYKL, Prepak (Pro), RPF/PLA, and UNLF (Koireng led).

The statement alleged that the incident occurred while the joint underground outfit was trying to dominate the area where KNF(B), along with the Indian Occupied Force (IOF), was sheltering, planning to ambush the joint insurgent outfit.

The statement expressed condolences on the death of the three cadres from the two different outfits who fought together against KNF(B), accusing them of trying to disintegrate Manipur with the intention of establishing a separate Kukiland.

Manipur Police said the bodies were recovered from the site by a combined team of the 5th Assam Rifles and the 21st Assam Rifles, and were handed over to Machi police station, Tengnoupal district of Manipur.

The funeral rites of the three deceased were held on Friday.
