Brother kills headmaster

Imphal : A school headmaster was shot dead by his younger brother in Manipur’s Thoubal district on Saturday night.

The deceased was Sapam Swaminath, 54, a resident of Thoubal Ningombam Singam Leikai, Thoubal district. He was the headmaster of Ananda Purna School of Science, Thoubal.

His brother, Sapam Somorjit, a security guard employed at Axis Bank, Thoubal branch, shot him with his bank security bore gun at their residence following a trivial fight.

Police said Somorjit committed the crime under the influence of alcohol.

Swaminath sustained a bullet injury to his chest and was rushed to a hospital in Imphal. The hospital authorities declared that he was brought in dead.

A case has been registered at Thoubal police station. Somorjit was arrested and the gun used in the crime has been seized.

The body has been deposited at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal East morgue.
