Imphal: The government has been taking up all possible measures to ensure uninterrupted supply of essential commodities in the state, said chief minister N. Biren Singh on Thursday.
Biren expressed his desire for the public to work unitedly to bring an amicable solution to the current crisis in the state.
The chief minister was addressing at the inauguration of a training centre and three night shelters for Building and Other Construction (BOC) workers, organised by the Manipur Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board, under the department of Skills, Labour, Employment and Entrepreneurship, Manipur at ITI, Takyelpat, Imphal.
The BJP government in the state has been extending unwavering support to the working class of the society. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to empower and encourage working women in the state, a project worth around Rs 150 crore have been sanctioned for construction of working women’s hostels in different 10 locations in the state. Around Rs 10 crore have been sanctioned for construction of skill development centre for youths in Takyel area, he said.
Loans upto Rs 10 lakh with 30 percent subsidy are made available to the weaker section of the society under One Family One Livelihood scheme to increase the standard of living and appealed to the people to avail the benefits he added.
Biren praised the MLA, Patsoi AC Sapam Kunjakeswor Singh for his key role in obtaining approval of a project costing around Rs 400 crore for repairing roads affected by the recent floods in the state from the ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
The government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, free distribution of fortified rice under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) scheme would continue till 2028, he said.
There has been complaints of not distributing free rice regularly to the deserving people. People recieve rice from agents once in three months.
Since the state government cannot provide jobs to all the educated youths, the the government has taken up initiatives to provide skill-based training courses to make youths employable at genuine companies, the chief minister said.
He added that priorities for the training programme would be given to the youths who are presently displaced from their homes.
Heikham Dingo Singh, minister for Skill, Labour, Employment and Entrepreneurship stated that Manipur Building and other Construction Workers Welfare Board became functional only after the formation of government under N.Biren Singh, though it was established in 2010. He continued that the inauguration of training centre and three-night shelters for BOC workers can be taken as a major achievement of the board.
The minister maintained that the government had been taking up various welfare measures to ease the hardships faced by the people due to the current crisis and sought support from the public in the government’s initiative to restore peace and normalcy in the State.
The programme was attended by ministers, advocate general, MLAs, hairman of Manipur Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board and officials of the department of Labour, Employment and Entrepreneurship among others.
