Imphal: Makhuam (Marangjing) and Charoi Pandongba villages of Noney district, Manipur have lifted Ban on the NF-Railway construction work after two years.
The railway line aims to connect foreign countries through Myanmar. The project has link with the Act East Policy of India government.
Manipur earlier had no railway connections with rest of the country, until it has reached Jiribam and Noney.
The development came following an agreement signed between the two villages with the Government of Manipur represented by Dipu Gangmei, chairman, Hill Areas Committee, Samuel, Dy chief engineer, NF-Railway Imphal, with the consent of the Railway ministry.
The construction work had been stopped for completely two years since December 2022, due to the failure of non releasing of the compensation for huge damaged and lost of public properties by the massive landslide occurred in the midnight of July 29, 2022.
The authority agreed to release the compensation for the affected families.
The landslide occurred on June 30, 2022 at Tupul railway construction site in Manipur’s Noney district, killing 58 people and injuring 18 while three others were missing.
Experts made their report that the massive landslide was due to various factors including heavy railfall, long term exposure of cut hill slopes, debries blocking the flow of Ijei river.
Chief minister N. Biren Singh had said that the government will provide Rs 5 lakh each to the family of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured.
Makhuam (Marangjing) and Charoi Pandongba villages had imposed indefinite ban on railway construction works with the failure to provide compensation in time.
