Imphal: Amid the fear of Kuki militants’ attack in Manipur valley, a lathode bomb exploded at Sangaiprou Mamang Leikai near the FCI godown at around 1 am on Wednesday.
The bomb exploded just about 50 meters to the west of the FCI Sangaiprou godown camplex.
According to a CCTV footage, the sound of the bomb being launched was heard, and about seven seconds later, it exploded along the inter-village road of Sangaiprou Mamang Leikai.
During the incident, some properties belonging to two residents, Oinam Ongbi Kumari, wife of the late O. Santiprakash, and Oinam Dayachandra, son of the late O. Joyprakash, were damaged. The bomb exploded near the galvanized tin fencing wall of the two residences.
A team from Lamphel police station, led by its officer-in-charge, inspected the spot and recovered splinters of the bomb.
Police said the explosive is suspected to be a lathode, likely fired from a nearby distance.
The Meira Paibi (traditional Meitei women volunteers) of Sangaiprou Apunba Nupi Lup and Sangaiprou Naharol Club, Sangaiprou Mamang Leikai, staged a sit-in at the blast site, protesting against the blast.
