Imphal: Kuki militants attacked Mongbung village in Jiribam district of Manipur using firearms on Tuesday evening, after a combined team of state and central forces conducted a search operation and securing the area with destruction of a bunker at Mongbung.
According to district police, the incident occurred around 6:48 pm when suspected militants from Seijang village (a Kuki village) launched an attack on Mongbung village (a Meitei village) in Jiribam, a district bordering Assam.
Village defense volunteers, along with state forces, retaliated. The exchange of fire lasted til around 8 pm. No casualties were reported.
The district police said sporadic gunfire has been occurred over the past few days.
