Imphal: Chief Minister N. Biren Singh launched Swachhata Hi Seva, 2024, Manipur at the Cabinet Hall of the Chief Minister’s Secretariat today. The launching programme was organised by the Department of Municipal Administration, Housing and Urban Development (MAHUD), Government of Manipur.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh stated that the idea of this campaign came from the people’s willingness to live a dignified life within a clean and strong India as well as Manipur. He expressed hope that by organising the Swachh Bharat Campaign every year with new hope and ambition of the people, our Country and the State would become strong and developed.

Elaborating on the Swachhata Hi Seva, 2024, the Chief Minister spoke on its five categories including Cleanliness Target Units also known as Black Spot, Public Participation, Awareness and Advocacy (Swachhata Mein Jan Bhagidari), Preventive Health Checkups and Social Security Coverage (Safai Mitras Suraksha Shivirs), Mass Scale Cleanliness Drive- Voluntary contribution (Shramdhaan) and Swachh Bharat Diwas 2024.

He continued that under the Cleanliness Target Units, sites which need regular cleaning would be identified, setting targets to make those identified sites clean. He added that the campaign could become successful only with the participation of the public, stating the importance of every citizen in Swachhata Hi Seva 2024. The campaign also aims to provide the frontline workers of cleanliness drive with proper medical and financial support, by availing free health checkup and providing PPE kits, he added.

  1. Biren stressed the need for everyone to keep aside all differences and take part in the cleanliness drive, thinking it as our duty to make our Country and the State clean.

On the Ministry of Home Affairs’ initiative to provide essential commodities to the people of Manipur at reasonable prices by opening Kendriya Police Kalyan Bhandars for the common people too from today, he appreciated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He further informed that 16 new Kendriya Police Kalyan Bhandars would be opened in addition to the existing 21 Bhandars.

Delivering his welcome address, Commissioner, MAHUD, M. Joy stated that Swachhata Hi Seva, 2024 has been launched all over the States and the Union territories of India including our State, Manipur. Swachh Bharat Mission Urban and Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin, both schemes relating to cleanliness were launched in 2014 under the supervision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The theme for Swachhata Hi Seva, 2024 is Swabhav Swachhata, Sanskar Swachhata, which means cleanliness is nature, cleanliness is culture, he added.

He further maintained that to achieve the vision of maintaining cleanliness, a collective and voluntary support from members of all communities is required. He continued that the campaign would focus on both valley and hill districts of the State.

The programme was also attended by Ministers, Member of Parliament, MLAs, Administrative Secretaries and Officials of MAHUD Department among others. (DIPR)
