Imphal: Manipur government, through governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, has demanded the central government to provide adequate power and responsibilities to the state government as per the Constitution by handing over Unified Command.
The demand was made in an 8-point memorandum submitted to the governor on Sunday by chief minister N. Biren Singh who was accompanied by the Speaker, his Cabinet colleagues, and MLAs of rulling party.
They demanded the Centre to ensure peace and non-violence in the state, to abrogate Suspension of Operation agreement with Kuki militants, there should not be separate administration as Kuki demanded, to fully protect the territorial integrity of the state, to complete Indo-Myanmar border fencing at the earliest, to implement FMR in letter and spirit, to implement NRC in the state with base year 1961, to detect all illegal migrants and deport them, a source said.
The chief minister had a meeting with ruling MLAs at his residence on Saturday and later went to meet the governor in the evening.
The political development came amid mounting pressure from people after Kuki terrorists resumed attack to Meitei villages with drone bombs and missiles, resulting to killing and severe human casualties.
The governor, who arrived Imphal on Saturday evening after a leave of fifteen days, had called the Security Advisor and other senior officials for briefing.
There were speculations that the chief minister may resign if he is not authorized with Unified command and speculated that the governor may recommend for Animated Suspension.
