Counter Kuki attacks: People to police

Imphal: Frustrated over ‘government’s negligence’ to deploy state forces in the vlunerable zone of Lamlai Assembly Constituency, people protested and launched an indefinite bandh along Imphal-Ukhrul road on Thursday.

The Lamlai Kendra Village Volunteers Force convened a public meeting, decrying the inadequate deployment of state forces and the continued presence of the JAT Regiment at Uyok Ching in Thamnapokpi, an area vulnerable to Kuki militant attacks.

The villagers accused central forces of inaction during recent bomb attacks, exacerbating tensions.

Emergency and essential services were permitted passage after scrutiny, the voluntary force said.
