Imphal, 31 Aug 202: Assam Rifles recovered ‘large’ cache of Areca nuts from general area Machi and Khampang Khullen close to Sita village, Tengnoupal district in two separate operations on Friday.
In both the operations, during the conduct of area domination patrols, the parties of Assam Rifles from Modi and Tengnoupal stopped and checked suspicious vehicles. On detailed inspection, areca nut recoveries of 12,000kgs and 16,200 kgs respectively were made, the Assam Rifles said on Saturday.
The value of the same in the international market is assessed to be approximately Rs 2.5 crore and the same has been handed over to the Customs department, it added.
Six individuals were apprehended in both the operations and further handed over to Machi and Tengnoupal police stations respectively for further legal proceedings.
