Imphal: To promote the cause of forest and environment conservation under the theme “Ek Ped Maa ke Naam” in the honour of mothers, Chief Justice of Manipur Siddharth Mridul led the tree plantation drive in Manipur High Court premises in collaboration with the Forest department of Manipur.

The event, held on Friday at the High Court of Manipur, witnessed enthusiastic participation by judges and fraternity of the High Court with the officials from the Forest department.

Saplings of Kadamb, Peepal, Nageshwar and Bokul were planted on this occasion. These plants are known for its rich ecological value and medicinal properties.

“Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” is an initiative aimed at encouraging people to plant a tree in the name of their mothers, thereby not only contributing to environmental sustainability but also paying tribute to the pivotal role mothers play in nurturing life. This initiative aligns with the broader goals of enhancing green cover and combating climate change.

In upcoming days, more such events have been lined up to organise in district Courts and also in collaboration with various other organisations

The Forest department of Manipur under this initiative has undertaken plantation of around 26 lakh saplings during current year across various Forest Divisions in Manipur. Under this campaign, the department aims to plant 30 lakh seedling by September, 2024 and 50 lakh seedlings by end of March, 2025.
